JOONLAN, a leading developer of high-end optical chips, components, and modules, has announced the global launch of its new 800G coherent pluggable optical modules, designed to meet the surging demand for high-speed, low-latency connectivity in artificial intelligence (AI) data centers. The new modules, available in OSFP/QSFP-DD form factors, leverage the company’s proprietary coherent technology and advanced digital signal processing (DSP) to deliver industry-leading performance over both short- and long-reach links.

“AI infrastructure is evolving at an unprecedented pace, with hyperscale data centers expanding across multiple sites to accommodate massive workloads,” said Dr. Li Wei, Chief Technology Officer at JOONLAN. “Our 800G coherent modules address the critical need for reliable, high-capacity interconnection between geographically dispersed compute clusters, while minimizing power consumption and operational costs.”

The new 800G modules support IP-over-DWDM architecture, enabling direct integration between routers and dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) systems. This eliminates the need for intermediate transponder equipment, simplifying network design and reducing capital expenditures. With a target transmission reach of up to 120 km, the modules are ideal for data center interconnect (DCI) applications, as well as for metropolitan and long-haul transport networks.

Key features include:

Ultra-low power consumption: Optimized DSP and laser driver designs reduce power usage by 20% compared to competing solutions, supporting energy-efficient AI data center operations.

High reliability: Built-in thermal management and error correction technologies ensure stable performance in high-density, high-temperature environments.

Flexible deployment: Pluggable form factor allows for easy integration into existing network infrastructure, with backward compatibility to 400G and 100G systems.

JOONLAN reports that early trials with leading cloud service providers have shown consistent signal quality and latency performance, with the modules meeting or exceeding industry benchmarks for 800G coherent transmission. The company plans to begin volume shipments in Q3 2026, with production capacity scaling to meet demand from global data center operators.
