JOONLAN Expands 5G Wireless Backhaul Portfolio, Enabling Seamless Connectivity for Smart Cities

JOONLAN has expanded its portfolio of optical solutions for 5G wireless backhaul, launching a new line of 25G and 100G industrial-grade optical modules designed to support the growing demands of smart city infrastructure. The new products are optimized for fronthaul, midhaul, and backhaul applications, providing reliable, low-latency connectivity between base stations and core networks.

“5G is transforming urban environments, with applications ranging from high-definition video streaming to smart traffic management and industrial IoT,” said Liu Yang, General Manager of JOONLAN’s Wireless Business Unit. “Our optical modules are engineered to meet the stringent requirements of 5G backhaul, including high reliability, wide temperature range operation, and easy deployment.”

The 25G SFP28 modules support CPRI and eCPRI protocols, making them ideal for connecting remote radio units (RRUs) to baseband units (BBUs) in 4G/5G base stations. The 100G QSFP28 LR4 modules, on the other hand, are designed for midhaul and backhaul links, supporting transmission distances of up to 40 km. All products are built to meet industrial temperature standards (-40°C to +85°C), ensuring stable operation in harsh outdoor environments.

In addition to standard products, JOONLAN offers customized solutions for specific 5G use cases, including small-cell backhaul and fiber-to-the-antenna (FTTA) applications. The company’s intelligent network management system provides real-time monitoring and fault detection, helping operators reduce maintenance costs and improve service level agreements (SLAs).

The global optical wireless backhaul market is projected to grow from $1.33 billion in 2025 to $3.13 billion by 2030, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 18.6%. JOONLAN’s expanded portfolio positions the company to capitalize on this growth, supporting the rollout of 5G networks and the development of smart cities worldwide.
